Finally organized myself and finished our Berlin trip report and got piccies online. My husband was at a conference in Berlin. So I and our son, aged 3 years, decided to go with him. As we have both been to Berlin before, we didn't really need to do a lot of sightseeing.

Instead, we were planning to just relax and do a little Berlin shopping. It was our first time traveling with our son to Berlin. We was going to spend some days in Berlin and I was looking for the good apartment hotel (with kitchen to prepare food for baby), the best - near Berlin Zoo. The variants with Berlin rent of private Berlin apartments in the same district are also was very interesting for us. As for me - liked a lot Berlin hotel Air in Berlin , but where is no kitchen in rooms. We liked Berlin shoenhause and there were some cozy rooms for our dates.

 

Saturday : Woke early and ate breakfast., which I made. We decided to purchase a three-day pass for the Berlin public transport to help us get around. Berlin pass also gave us discounts at a few of the different tourist sites. It took us awhile to figure out their system as all buses, trams and the subway lines are overlaid on one map, but once we did, it was quite easy to get from place to place. We take bus 100 Berlin. Traveled by metro to Berlin Zoo and its Berlin Aquarium. It was a fun Berlin activity for the whole family. We said hello to one of the inhabitants of the Berlin Zoo, ice bear Knut. Hungry, we had a lunch at Charlottchen. The food was generally tasty and reasonably priced. I and my lovely husband could sit and relax while our child had fun in the large play area, which is next to the tables. After launch we visited Berlin KaDeWe Toy’s department on the 5th floor. The KaDeWe (KaufHaus des Westens) is to Berlin what Harrods is to London.

 

The KaDeWe really is a sight to behold and if you're in Berlin, a must-visit. We did a little shopping. Our son was happy. We hopped on the metro to Alexanderplatz. Our kids was tired from walking around, but there was still more of Berlin what to do. So we took on a Berlin boat tour through Berlin's historic city center, and watched the Berlin landmarks. We sat outside, had a hot chocolate, and enjoyed the sights. Dinner was at Berlin restaurant Brauhaus Georgbraeu. The speciality was the Berlin Eisbin, an excellent pig`s knuckle simply teaming with lovely meat, served with shnapps and more of that lovely beer. A metre long box Berlin beer containing 12 glasses of either of house beers was for me and my husband. And Apfelstrudel (apple strudel) was for dessert.

 

Sunday: We grabbed a quick breakfast. Great coffee, just what we wanted for breakfast. First of all it was a long-promised visit to Berlin Legoland Discovery Center at Potsdamer Platz. Built with 1.5 million Lego bricks, our son could enjoy fun rides and adventure trails made completely out of Lego. My son tested his creations on a car racing track, as well as a miniature city of Berlin entirely built of Lego. We have noticed a lot of graffiti in Berlin. From the moment we arrived on the bus, we saw it on every wall. When we saw Berlin wall we had the impression that they are still being surreptitiously chipped away.

It is difficult nowadays to discern where the wall was and which part of the city was which.

 

Kindercity at Berlin Alexanderplatz also was aimed at our son with lots of activities. We had dinner at Zur letzten Instanz close to the Alexanderplatz. This place full of history and poetry, of worldly charm and Berlin wit. We ordered the "Knuckle of pork" with Sauerkraut and boiled potatoes.

 

Monday and Tuesday: It was the Berln conference. It was 2 days likes any others. Me and my son spent this days together. Our destination that morning was the Brandenburg Gates. Walked from the Brandenburger Tor down Unter den Linden. There was more "Berlin bears" sculptures and park benches. We relaxed on the benches with an ice cream. At the Reichstag building my son enjoyed the climb round and round the ramps to the top, for a dramatic panorama of Berlin. In the heart of Prenzlauer Berg, Kollwitz Platz, we found one of the biggest and best playgrounds here, with wonderful wooden play toys shaped like giant vegetables, a leafy park, and ping pong tables. My son want to try the incredible local underwater world in the biggest worldwide aquarium, the AquaDom. We didn`t miss the famous Tiergarden of Berlin. This is the biggest park in the city and full of nature: lakes, trees. There we could run and play freely and I had a coffee in the middle of the Berlin park. When we were sitting at Café am Neuen See looking out across the see (Lake) it was easy to forget that we’re in the centre of Berlin. We ate pizza there. We were happy!

 

It was wonderful to see Berlin thru the eyes of a 3 year old. We took our son with us and definitely had a very kid friendly Berlin travel but enjoyed doing some of the things my husband and I would not have taken the time to do if we had been by ourselves.

For me, the best gift of all is being with my son, and my husband.
